Taken over by the team who run two Oxford pubs: The Bookbinders in Jericho and James Street Tavern in Cowley, this has now adopted the Gallic flair and fayre of the former and includes the word 'bistro' on the fascia outside. A blue and white scheme predominates outside and in, although the front part of remains more of a bar area and there were a few locals seated around the tables here occasionally glancing at a TV tuned into Euro 2020 coverage. The dining area occupies the former games room and has framed photos and posters of various French cultural icons, landmarks and street scenes. Just Sharp's Doom Bar available on one of the three pumps (the other two redundant). Well-kept, but at an eye-watering price of £4.60 for a pint. A far better incarnation then the one I encountered four years ago, but I can't see myself returning here for quite some time at these prices.

A pub-by-numbers which lives in the shadow of its lauded cousin The Crazy Bear. A tad rough around the edges, this is a two-roomer with a large bare boarded bar area with stool seats and a mixture of standard tables and chairs along with a couple of sofas, padded chairs and other tables of varying height. A games room is part of the bar (to the left), stone-floored, with a pool table, darts board and large screen for the 'Live Sky Sports' they advertise outside. There's a separate area via a doorway which acts as a restaurant area and formerly served by an inactive bit of bar. Three ales - Sharp's Doom Bar, Marston's Pedigree and Ringwood Boondoggle, which was £3.60 a pint and actually quite decent despite my trepidation. Contemporary R&B tunes played as a quietish background, and the welcome from the guvnor was warm, so despite a handful of misgivings with this one, a down the road "5" is only fair.
