Good Beer Guide 2022 entry - a reasonable 10 min walk from the town centre.
Greene King branded.
Small front bar - lots of wood - with a raised main drinking area and and hidden little isolated room on the way to the loos.
My adult daughter was not too impressed with the cleanliness of the place - moving between a couple of tables to find seats not covered with snack debris.
Wadworth 6x in reasonable condition.

Overlooking Iffley Road, a short hop from the eponymous running track, scene of Roger Bannister's sub four-minute mile is the Fir Tree and don't let the Greene King branding put you off.
This is a split level pub with several largely dark panelled rooms, bare boarded and with conventional furniture. There's some interesting bric-a-brac décor which includes a Seth Thomas or Waterbury, CT American clock, all accompanied by a decent soundtrack on the gramophone.
A friendly barman presiding over three ales which I couldn't clock (as well as the obligatory Old Tripe) in addition to an Orkney Brewery/Belhaven collaboration - Kittiwake - at a pricey £4.00 a pint but very good.
This is a very cosy, friendly pub which I think is the best in the Cowley Road/Iffley Road triangle; worth seeking out if in the area.

A Greene King pub with six ales. An excellent selection with only one of theirs on, others included Oakham Inferno (fair), Mordue Workie Ticket (good), Thornbridge Jaipur and Purity Mad Goose plus Westons cider. Some interesting bottled ales too. Pleasingly higgledy-piggledy alehouse-feel inside, a number of small drinking areas over a couple of levels and a small but well-done rear patio. Bare-boarded with traditional wooden seating, various objects d'art on shelves and a number of retro pre-war advertising posters. Candles in wine bottles on the tables. Framed artwork for sale. Rock music via the jukebox (free between 4-6 and double credits 6-8!). WiFi. Excellent selection of bar snacks including jelly babies! A lot of character and seemingly well-worth heading out of town for (looks like things have improved since the previous reviewer’s fly-by).
