The Raven Inn at Tilley is now called the Tilley Raven, presumably because there is a Raven Hotel seven miles away at Prees Heath near Whitchurch. Tilley is a small village just outside Wem, and it is a pleasant enough 20 minute walk from the railway station. The original building has been added to, with the bar up a step in the large back room. This feels a little awkward, as the ceiling here is the same height as the front room. The front room, in the original building, has a few comfortable chairs and tables, whereas the back room is a dining room. There are two hand pumps with beers from the Marstons stable: Brakspear Oxford Gold and 61 Deep. I went for the Gold, which was undistinguished but in good condition.

Just outside Wem and well worth the effort to find it. In the Camra Good Beer Guide. Serves meals homecooked meals.
