Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Abbey
Formerly an Ember Inn, and now a Stonegate Classic Inn, but little else seems to have changed in this imposing building in its own grounds. Various seating / dining areas in an overall 'L' shape, with an emphasis on the former at the front and the latter further back. Numerous handpumps, with Pedigree, London Pride, a pair of Hobgoblins - IPA and Ruby - and a couple from Oakham: Inferno (£4.05) and Bishops Farewell available on this first revisit since 2019.

As the previous review states this is a long walk from the station GBG 2011 states 15 minutes , it took me 20 and i know the way , its easy to get lost in the streets behind the Dana and around Monkmoor if your new to the area . The pub was converted from a private house in 1938 and named after the nearby Benadictine Abbey . The pub itself is really one large open plan room with a central bar , the walls are painted a strange mauve colour in the front of the pub and washed out orange to the rear with some cheap looking prints , small alcoves filled with logs and a 1970s style display case with vases and ornaments , its all a bit your Aunties house in 1975 !
There are nine handpulls plus the usual keg , only five handpulls on during my visit with Bass , Abbott Ale , Doombar , Harviston Bitter and Twisted and i had Meantime London Pale Ale which was OK . The pub was pretty busy , mostlly people eating . Overall its OK for a quick pint if your in the area but i would not make a special journey to visit

This pub is a long walk from the station, but I decided to go as according to CAMRA’s GBG 2010 this is Ember Inns flagship pub. Well I’m sorry, but that says a lot about Ember Inns. It’s a bland conversion of what looks like a very large old house. It has the typical logs in the wall, cheap and nasty prints and generic furniture that a lot of their places have. It’s major difference apparently is that they have a large range of cask ales on. They do, there are 9 handpumps, six were being used, one of them had an interesting beer on, Kelburn Red Smiddy, the rest were boring e.g. London Pride & Brew XI. It was full of people who have no imagination when it comes to pubs, eating bland bought in food. For god’s sake if you want a curry then go to a decent Indian restaurant not a pub! It has a large beer garden and a car park if that rings your bell, otherwise I wouldn’t bother.
