A very pleasant roadside pub which suffers a little from grockle passers-by. Previously The Railway, the pub was built as a railway hotel in 1831. Although the railway has long-gone, the pub remains as a B&B, restaurant and watering hole. There is a large car park at the side plus more parking at the front by the road. The garden at the back is pleasant, lawned, but suffers from road noise at busy times. Inside, the large main bar has tiled flooring and plenty of comfortable seating. There is a large open fire at one end. There is a smaller dining room at the side. Food was of a high standard but not too expensive. The only ale on was Bath Gem, which was in good condition but served a bit too cold for my liking. There was also a real cider on draft. The landlord was good company, and the waitresses were very helpful and brought water for the dogs without being asked. It’s well worth a visit if passing, both for food and a comfortable few hours socialising.

An excellent hostelry that I have visited many times over the past 30 years. Formerly The Railway (alongside the former Somerset & Dorset station) then The Silent Whistle, The Natterjack is a superb pub. A very enthusiast beer lover, the landlord keeps his beers in tip-top condition. Bath's Gem and Butcombe Bitter are the regulars, with one guest ale making for a great session. Really good pub food adds the icing to the cake. A charming country inn. Well recommended.
