A roadside pub which serves as a village local. It has recently reopened after a short closure, but it has retained its character. On the main road through the village, a tourist route to Minehead, it is easy to miss. There is a carpark entered up a steep slope, while what was the garden has also been given over to parking. Yet more parking is available across the road. Inside, there are two main bar areas formed from four smaller conjoined rooms, two original hearths retained, one with a woodburner. The area nearest the door is the bar area, the remainder mainly dining tables, and they’ve kept rather dated 1970s carpets. They offer filled rolls throughout the day, and there are specials nights. Children are not allowed at the bar – a very welcome policy. The landlord seemed a bit vague, but he kept his beer well, and the pub had a good cadre of locals. On draught were On The Level Pale, Black Bear Nanook and Doombar, all in very good condition. There were also two boxed ciders from Sandford. On keg were Sharp’s Offshore, Carling, Thatcher’s Haze, Madri and Guinness. Worth stopping off on the way through, and it’s on the Somerset 2026 Ale Trail.

Eaten here a couple of times on the way in to Minehead - friendly staff, beers kept OK and good pub food at reasonable prices. Above average.
