A large village pub in a traditional Georgian village house which has been extended on the ground floor. There is a sizable garden area which was being dug up to provide more parking space when we visited. One of the annex extensions contains a skittle alley which doubles as a function room. There are three main bar areas served by a single central counter, and there is a dining room in addition. The public bar is looking a little worse for wear but is currently undergoing renovation, as is much of the pub’s exterior, and it currently houses a jukebox, pool table and a large TV screen. The landlord, a former bank manager, is very welcoming indeed and creates a very pleasant ambiance which is at odds with the worn surroundings. The landlady does the cooking, introducing a Mediterranean twist to the standard pub menu. There was one ale on draught, Tribute, which was in excellent condition, and there was a second handpump dispensing Perry’s cider. Water was offered for the dogs. A genuinely hospitable welcome suggests this will be an excellent place to come for food and drink, and I’m looking forward to visiting again when the construction work has finished.

Large roadside village free house about 2 km from the A303. Two real ales, Doom Bar and one from Cotleigh and Burrow Hill cider on hand pump. The pub has a skittle alley adjacent to the bar area, and a restaurant / dining area on the other side. The welcome was friendly enough but the pub did feel a bit of a locals pub and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back. Having said that, the Doom Bar was quite drinkable, Cotleigh less so.
