Now being run by Kirkstall and Five Points breweries in collaboration, after several years of True North. My experience of Kirkstall is that their beers and pubs are in a different class from True North's, and Five Points seem to be a good fit. My XPA from the latter was very good (NBSS 4), and I like the more subdued colours used in their refurbishment - dark stained wood, dark green paint on the walls, and dark navy upholstery on the bench seats. Plenty of mirrors to bounce the light around in the curved area that Ray liked (in the previous review below) and it's probably only me that finds the music a bit loud, though I quite enjoyed that it was mostly unknown to me. I'm a fan of Kirkstall, so it's good to know I can now get Three Swords and Kirkstall Bitter (also NBSS 4) within a 15 minute walk of my front door.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The York
This was our last pub on our crawl and what a real treat this pub was. The interior was traditional and tastefully finished, I especially liked the lounge area with the curved bay on the far right of the entrance. The service at the bar was efficient and beer quality was up there.
Six ales on handpump Kirkstall Three Swords and Bitter, Five Points XPA, Thornbridge Bowie, Abbeydale Cloud Peak and Triple Point Zephyr.

There are nine hand pumps available here, with three ciders at the time of our recent visit and six beers. Two were from Dancing Duck, one each from Pictish, Concertina, True North and Phoenix. While this is an admirable selection in terms of interesting beers from mostly local(ish) breweries, I often find when I come here that nearly all the beers are around the 4.5 to 5% mark, and on this occasion the lowest strength beer was Spotland Gold at 4.1%.
Contrary to the previous reviewer, I find the York to be very food oriented - perhaps it's something to do with the time of day. The 20% off for NUS card holders certainly attracts students, especially those with parents in tow, so I often find there's hardly anywhere for a drinker to sit, stand or lean. However, this is slightly nit-picking, and after some of the bland beers I'd been drinking on my crawl through Fulwood and Crosspool it was a pleasure to have Concertina's Bengal Tiger tickle my taste buds.
