A pleasant spot, the pub has a real country feel to it. L-shaped inside although the far end does return around a bit, the front bar area is boarded and has a large inglenook fireplace on the end wall with an oval clock above. Beamed ceiling with posts too, old pictures, mini suits of armour. Next to the fireplace there is a dartboard in a recess but with a sofa in front of it. The rear area has bookcases and a pair of old holiday destination advertisements for Whitley Bay and fishing at South Shields, not sure if there is a NE connection going on.
There is a small squint ended bar facing you as you enter, two pairs of handpumps one each side but there is a chalkboard listing what's on. Only two when I arrived, Otter Ale and Bingham's Macchiato Stout but Upham's Punter was added and pulled through later leaving three on. The rear areas were all set for dining and were reserved, the menus on the table indicated regular pub fare, mains from £9.50.
A nice pub with a rustic feel, I'd like to visit on a cold day with a proper fire going in that inglenook.

A nice pub, this. Traditional interior - low beams, scrubbed wood floor, old tin advertising signs, black & white pics, piano and inglenook fireplace (unlit, sadly). Nice cosy atmosphere within. Football showing silently on the TV plus an unusable dartboard. Piped music best described as ‘Easy listening Louisiana Blues ‘. To the rear is a rather fabulous beer garden. At the bar were two interesting ales - Dark Star Festival (good nick) and Longman APA. There were also some beers out back in the garden left over from a recent festival. A downside was the prices - £3.90 for those at the bar, and a less-than-clearance-sale price of £3.60 for the aged festival beers Overall though, very nice – certainly not the ‘Irish feel’ as described below – things appear to have moved on.

Intended to meet at the George, but as they told us they only planned to open at 1pm we popped around the corner to here first.
Very little parking, seats outside taking many spaces. Nice inside, very small Bistro towards the back. Irish feel, barman could not make an advertised Latte as the man was stuck in traffic. Menu looked worth a trip back sometime, did not try this time around.
