It's quite likely that I encountered the same locals as the previous reviewer earlier in the year, chatting amongst themselves and paying scant attention to the on-screen football.
On the bar, I found Doom Bar plus a deliciously cool Pilgrim Quench Session IPA, though the regulars were tending to prefer the standard lagers.
Given the quality of the ale, I'd say that its worth a visit, but be aware that this is a pub with multiple screens for the sport, and liable to fill up on big occasions.

A lively sports sort of pub by the station, with a conventional area round the bar and a room beyond (in darkness) offering darts and pool. Early evening found a good pubby atmosphere with down-to-earth locals. Ales on were Pilgrim Surrey Original and Butcombe Chris Moose. I swerved the latter as I do not trust Christmas brews after New Year, but actually the Pilgrim was not in the best of shape either. Pleasant enough, especially if waiting for a train.
