Attractive looking place with black external wood beams. Surprisingly large (whacked-through and a bit gloomy at points) inside, relatively cosy though. Six cask on, my first choice of Bakewell was very good (NBSS 3.5), the follow-up of Farmer's Blonde a little less so (2.5). Names and tenures of former licensees are displayed on the beams which is a good use. 7.5

My room for the night and an honour to be in a 1660 building, operating as a coaching house for 400 years.
Beers were well kept, with an Acorn Brewery Barnsley Bitter Chosen.
Landlord and staff friendly.
Can only comment of breakfast, which was super.
Castleton has been superb - great beers in all 5 places.

I came here at the end of October 2009 this is a decent looking pub,it is quite comfortable inside with some decent beers on the bar these were Acorn Barnsley Bitter which was very good,Bradfield Blonde and Chatsworth Gold.I think this is one of the better pubs in Castleton.
