Nice old pub with a bit of character. A few separate rooms and 4 ales on offer - Wye Valley Butty Bach, Oakham Citra, 61 Deep and Timothy Taylor Golden Best. I went for the latter which was fine. Not the most inspiring array of ales but good to see a choice. Well worth a visit.

This is another Wednesbury pub that was once owned by Bass Charrington and today shows no sign of the ownership. It's quite Olde Worlde both inside and out as described below.
A banner outside proclaimed a beer festival. I don't know where that was supposed to be as it certainly wasn't in here. There were three beers on, two from the Marston's stable (Ringwood Fortyniner and Jennings Cocker Hoop) and Exmoor Fox, A pretty dull selection for what appears to be a non-brewery owned pub. I went for the Exmoor Fox which produced the next bad news, it was in excellent condition but at £3.40 was an outrageous price in this area for a 4.2% ABV beer.
It is GBG 2015 listed and has appeared in many guide editions but I had lost interest. A boring beer selection and rip-off prices equals a poor score from me. I certainly wouldn't return.

A detached and slightly hotch-potch of a corner pub. It is in mock-Tudor style - in white render and black beams, with dormer windows to go with the Ye Olde in the name and the alleged date of 1510 on the outside. The pub was rebuilt in 1913, but is a re-worked older building - i would love to know how they know the building was a pub in 1510.
The inside has three rooms, a bar, snug and a split dining area at the back - all served from a central serving bar. The decor of the almost the whole pub is the white artex and black beam look on both the walls and ceiling, with patterned carpets. To the right on entry is the small snug, which has a green tiled fireplace as its main feature and is quieter and aimed more for food. I didn't eat here so i can't comment on the food. The dinig are at the back is split by a central wall with a fake fire feature. It has green seats. The bar is at the front and has settles as well as perimeter seats and stools. Good old copper tables are everywhere to increase the traditional feel. Decoration was supplied by old photographs, prints and plates, along with a few brass ornaments. There is a TV in the bar, but this wasn't on and the background music was very quiet. The service was fine and the clientele mixed, friendly, but few.
Beer; tap stuff, with Banks's MILD and sadly, only two out of four handpumps on, with Cumberland Ale and Hobgoblin. The hobgoblin was fine.
To me, the beer choice is never one to make this place unmissable, it is actually the pub you come to visit and take what beer is on. I would always visit here if in Wednesbury
