Very attractive looking pub on the main road. It has now had the full Bar & Grill Desi pub treatment but at least it is still here! Lots of football memorabilia on display which we had plenty time to look at! We were the first customers and we stood about for almost 10 minutes waiting to be served - there wasn't a soul in sight. No ales on of course so a quick Guinness was enjoyed. The bar is stunning and quite rightly listed.

Impressive-looking corner pub best known for its heritage tiled bar counter and Victorian bar-back. However, much of the interior was otherwise refurbished with an unsympathetic light look that is now showing its age. There is also a modernised lounge / dining room at the back and an upstairs function room, but the real ale is long gone as has the bowling green at the back. Made do with a John Smith's (£3.00) whilst thinking of what this place might still have been...

UPDATE: This place closed for a refurb - it remains the same from the outside, apart from new signage. It is an Edwardian building that replaced an earlier one on roughly the same site. The decor in the front room has changed to a coffee and cream wall, with either dark red, or green. The tiled bar remains (thank God). There are new classier sporting pictures and new brown seating (with high chairs and tables). The menu has changed. Service was still fine and the clientele mainly mature. Beer; sam as last time, only there are two real ale taps, the Doombar on was turned around, the other had a decent enough Pedigree on (if Pedy can be called decent these days). Looks more tidy and has a real ale on - worth a pop in for one.

Jan 2012: This is a fantastic large detached corner pub with a rear patio area. It looks Victorian/Edwardian and has a tower and mock gatehouse looking entrances. It is executed in undressed brick with stone string courses and window surrounds as well as some moulded stone work and mock-Tudor gables.

The interior has a couple of rooms. The lounge at the rear is also set-up for food and is in red and white walls, with carpet flooring. The bar is at the front and is in white and red decor, with a white ceiling and wood floor. The serving bar is to the left on entry and is fantastic in its wood and green ceramic tiling and wood behind. There is a dart board and there is a TV. The decoration was mainly supplied by a montage of photographs of the locals and Help for Heros flags. The service was great and the clientele was mixed, local and it was busy. Music was generic and at a decent level. We have eaten here before and the food was good and reasonable (16oz steak for a tenner).

Beer, despite having six handpulls, there was no real ale on - a shame really, it would have made the place a 'must visit'. So, all tap stuff, with a good Banks's MILD.

I liked the place - it was a shame they did not do real ale. Worth a swifty to look at the serving bar, especially if happy with a keg beer.
