Well described by others below, and certainly worth avoiding during the holiday weekends, Mothers’ Day, bank holidays and so on. During the normal week, though, it’s well worth visit. The garden is currently covered by a large marquee, and the Covid signs and measures are all there, albeit largely ignored. I found the staff really helpful and friendly, and the customers who were in mostly a decent bunch. Three ales on, Ubu from Purity, Tribute and Abbott. This time I had the Purity, which was in very good condition. Although not my preferred style of pub I’d be happy to come back.

They've really gone to town: metal barriers, one way systems, outside bar, plastic glasses, food served outside in styrofoam boxes, lots of sanitiser, a signing-in app. Lots of signs too, perhaps too many as I missed the outside bar for following arrows, went in the pub, was sent out the other end to join another one-way system.
The outdoor seating is copious, and lovely on the canal bank, though due to blusterous weather we sat under the gazebo with the two other customers on a midweek afternoon. Sadly just Abbot on, the Landlord promptly went off when I ordered it, so stuck to eurofizz.
You're more likely to choke on a peanut than catch anything nasty here.

As described below, a huge Greene King dining pub aimed squarely at the Birmingham Sunday-Lunch-With-The-In-Laws classes, as the extensive car park foretells before you set foot inside. Think high-end Chef and Brewer, though this one is leased to a (sigh) facetiously named management company. Most of it is comfortably olde-worlde pubby, and it's fine to have a drink if you avoid meal times. Though if it's beer you're after you might be disappointed, just IPA and Abbott when we called, so I fell back on eurofizz. And there's plenty of space outside for fine days, probably the best place if you want to avoid the weekend in-laws and weekday final salary types.

An impressive historical pub nicely situated on the Stratford canal with an extensive garden.
The inside has been subject to a comprehensive but largely sympathetic refurbishment with many original features remaining. These include ceiling beams and old fireplaces one with an original bread oven.
The pub wraps around a central bar and is subtly divided into different areas so it doesn't feel open plan.
Menus are on every table offering pub grub and there's a specials board with a more adventurous selection. Although it still feels very much like a pub, food is important here.
Beers on we're GK IPA and Abbot, a decent Timothy Taylor Landlord and Nethergate Suffolk County.
A nice spot to stop for a pint or some lunch.
