nice bar, but seemed to be struggling on a Saturday evening as I found myself drinking alone and only two of the hand pumps were operational. but still probably one of the best in Morecambe.

Will Larter left this review about The Palatine

I remember coming here more than 40 years ago, when the pub was owned by Matthew Brown of Blackburn, and the walls were entirely covered with wood panelling. Matthew Brown has long since gone, and so, it seems, has about half of the wood panelling, for there are now sections of exposed stone instead. When we first called in here late afternoon, there were no customers and, perhaps more importantly, no one serving either. We waited a few minutes, and even made the sort of noises that indicate the arrival of thirsty potential customers, but to no avail. (Hint: turn down the loud background music if you're sloping off for a few minutes.)

We returned a little over an hour later to find the place fairly crowded and at least three members of staff bustling around busily. There are two banks of four hand pumps, with just one beer available on each set. Presumably there are more at weekends or in summer. (There's a beer festival in July. I know this because the banner declaring it to be so was still affixed to the front of the building at the end of September!) My beer was from Nethergate, Suffolk County Ale; my brother prefers something golden or blonde, so went for the Gloucester Docks Cascade. (What, no local ales?) I quite liked it here, but couldn't help regretting the loss of all that wood panelling.

Smallish place with four hand pumps, two of which were off, the other two had weak real ale. Rest crap keg other than Budvar.
