Located in the eastern Newport suburb of Maindee, this branch of Wetherspoon's is another of their cinema conversions. However, whilst it's former use is fairly obvious from the outside, I didn't notice any easily identifiable features inside. You enter into a cosy area (the former foyer) with lots of seating and also benefitting from natural light from the windows. However, one guy singing away to himself put us off returning to this area with our drinks.
Instead, we headed to the raised rear section of the pub which opens out into a fairly open-plan space with the bar on the right-hand side but with tables packed in. This section is much darker, despite rear windows overlooking a paid car park. All of the pub is carpeted.
The inevitable games machines can be found on the left-hand side. Toilets were located on the ground floor.
Regular beers here are Sharp's Doom Bar & Greene King Abbot & IPA. Guests were Goff's Black Knight, Keltec Engine House, Brecon Gold Beacons & St Austell Hicks. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon and the lesser spotted Sheppey's Orchard View.
With time ticking on, we elected to eat here. I had the spiciest curry which certainly had a kick. What we had was typical Wetherspoon's fare which was dispatched to us with the usual efficiency. The customers were mainly of the aging variety. Quite a few were drinking the same beer I ordered (the Engine House), whilst others were ordering multiple rounds of shots and pitchers. With guest beers priced at £1.69 per pint and the IPA being just £1.29 a pint, it makes you wonder how any money is made.
There's nothing remarkable about this pub. However, I was impressed with the number of ciders and also the prices of the beers.

Straightforward no frills suburban GBG-listed Spoons in a converted cinema. The high-ceilinged foyer area as you enter is fairly smart but things fizzle out when you get to the main room. In a corporate departure there are Newport County banners above the bar and horse racing on the telly. Three guest cask, my Kirby Lonsdale was a bit lacklustre (NBSS 2). Not much else to add – it’s a local Spoons for local people, I wouldn’t see the need to leave Newport town centre to revisit. 5.5

Standard Wetherspoond cinema conversion, foyer area with booths before step upto main area. Poor beer choice and service.
