I wanted to go here on my last visit but Wetherspoons had closed it down. I think it was about a year before it reopened. You need to look carefully for clues that it is no longer a spoons, as they must have purchased the furniture when taking it on.

Clue 1) The beers are cheap but not cask. £4.20 for a Stella

Clue 2) There are TVs, but the volume is on. A bizarre mixture of gold and Kylie videos 50/50.

They even seem to do cheap eats - Fish and Chips (I think was a fiver but may be wrong) and all day breakfasts.

Busy on a Friday afternoon and not an unpleasant visit at all

I can see how this used to be a billiard hall, and how it used to be a Wetherspoons, but it’s now very far removed. It’s a large single roomed open plan venue with seating through and a curved bar counter that runs up the front left. I counted six hand pumps, but only one was in operation drawing Enville Brewery’s Enville Ale. Standard and premium keg was also available from the friendly barmen. During a recent Monday evening visit there was background music playing whilst Sky Sports News aired on the televisions throughout. Live music and karaoke is advertised for the weekends. This was my first visit, but I’d be surprised if the Billiard Hall isn’t now a shadow of its former self.

Typical Wetherspoon's in a former billiard hall, of course. It has the advantage of being all at ground level (including the toilets) and the tables are not too densely packed, which gives a reasonably spacious feel. Also shows enthusiasm for beer, with a fair choice of interesting guest ales alongside the usual suspects, and a list of 'upcoming' guests too. Cask Marque accredited.
