Incredibly bland Spoons like the inside of a leisure centre. Absolutely nothing of note. Five of the festival ales on, my Nigredo was a long pour disappointment (NBSS 2). That, combined with the wailing drone of a toddler, sent me scampering off early.

Well located on the south side of Market Square adjacent to the tram tracks, but it always looks rather uninviting. The elongated bar quickly gets gloomy as you head towards the back where the seating is raised by a couple of steps. Also has a mezzanine (never visited). Has a total of 14 handpumps, and used to have a good range of local / regional ales, but not on this visit with only Wallops Wood from Bowman (£1.99), Exmoor Stag and a couple of ciders in addition to the regular trio of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot.

Long thin spoons formerly a Lloyd’s I believe, its central location on the Old Market Square, means you can enjoy the chimes of the town hall clock and the trams rumbling by as you sup. Tall stools and tables near the front door, counter and machines in the middle and low chairs and tables, some on a raised area, at the rear. Two banks of five with a bank of four in the middle however just the unholy trinity plus Hobgoblin to delight your taste buds. Didn’t explore upstairs due to plague.
