Keg offering of Murphy's Irish Stout, Caffreys Black Stout, Stella, original SB, Worthington CF, Carling, Camden Pale Ale, Cruz, Neck Oil, Clwb Tropica, Madri, Guinness, Budvar, Inch's, Coors, Estrella Galicia, Amstel.
Large very sporting orientated pub on Westgate St right by the Millennium stadium. It has some seating outside at the front and barrels to stand at on the side and is bare boarded inside, with the main bar counter providing service on two sides and occupying the rear right-hand corner. The rear part, level with the side of the main bar counter houses three pool tables all in busy action on my visit and under a vaulted ceiling in this part of the venue, with a drinking ledge served by tall stools on the right and rear sides. Seating provided by lots of regular and tall tables in the main floor space in front of the pool table area and in front of the front side of the bar counter. There is also a bar counter, the Guinness Bar, on the left-hand wall mid venue, with a darting area just to the side of the rear of that bar counter. There is a raised area up a couple of steps at the front of the venue between the two corner entrance doors and which is carpeted and which provides further regular table and chair seating. Seating near the right-hand door comprised a right angle dark red studded leather banquette and then some crimson curved banquettes around regular tables along the front right-hand wall. Lighting very ambient, some provided by chandeliers. There are many TV screens in here showing US Masters golf, recorded footy action all with the sound turned off and a lot of sporting, mainly rugby, memorabilia on the walls. A reggae-based soundtrack was playing during my visit. A decent large venue to watch live sport in Cardiff city centre.

Attractive glazed ceramic tile exterior, retained from its Ind Coope days. Inside is a surprisingly huge place which looks like multiple subsumations and extensions. Retains distinct areas and has a 1990s feel to it; wood trim, wallpapered pillars and velvet curtains. The front area isn't a bad place to drink; it then opens-out at the rear to 3x pool tables and a jumbo screen with an odd mix plenty of national sporting ephemera, pictures of cliched rock stars and some old landscape pictures on display. Clearly popular, with plenty of people in on a Sunday afternoon despite there being no events at the Millennium. Six cask on and mainly Welsh origin. GBG listed, my Brains SA Gold lacked a bit of turnover but was fair (NBSS 2.5) which indicates they’re carrying one or two excess. Kudos to the hyperactive Irish barman who owned his space and kept things moving. Noted that there’s a big sign on the till that states “cash is king” (though they do take cards). On balance I’d be willing to give it another go in future, they were getting most things about right for a venue of this type. 6.5
