Old Boots left this review about The Quill & Scholar
A very deep/long pub, the third of the three in a row on Tamworth St, long and thin there’s seating at the front then a longish counter on the left with some banquette seating opposite then going further back what looks to be dining area. The decor is an interesting bunch of old prints and stuff offsetting the modern feel to the place. Their cellar cooler had gone titz up today so only national kegs on offer substantially duplicated on two T-bars. Had there been cask beer on the two banks of four it would have been Landlord, Butcombe, Hophead or Titanic from the reversed clips. Very modernised inside and a cashless establishment.

One of many pubs clustered around this end of town, this is part of a rank of three adjacent hostelries and whilst it hadn’t been our first choice, everywhere else was absolutely rammed on our recent Saturday evening visit, with barely any standing room, never mind anywhere to sit. Even here we only managed to perch on a stool at the bar.
It’s a good size internally extending some way back from the frontage, although the rear section did look to be reserved for diners, and is quite contemporary in terms of décor with sanded wooden boards on the floor, a whitewashed ceiling and either maroon or a contrasting khaki green colour on the walls. There were a couple of small sections of white painted brickwork including a supporting pillar and a fireplace. Above the fireplace was a large TV screen although it had a static image on and looked more like artwork, whilst in the alcoves with side were fitted bookcases. Quite a bit of artwork was dotted around the walls, although it all really felt rather generic and chain like.
Beers on tap were Butcombe Original, Dark Star Hophead, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Burton Bridge Sovereign Gold. The solitary cider meanwhile was Cornish Orchard’s Golden.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Quill & Scholar
Completely refurbished by Heartwood Inns after a period of closure, and it certainly looks quite appealing these days. There is an elongated bar area at the front, with the slightly split-level dining areas beyond (although the latter was much busier than the former when I visited). Doom Bar, Landlord and Tribute (£4.80, so-so) available from two banks of four handpumps on different parts of the counter.
