For prosperity sake it is worth recording in the text that this was the pub featured in the classic fifth and final episode of the brilliant Boys From The Blackstuff series.
I'm not sure if it was done but at the time of the demolition of the pub to make way for flats there was a local campaign to have a plaque on the new flats with the words “Shake Hands was here, 1982” on it.

Al Bundy left this review about Green Man
A tatty exterior belies a quite comfortable interior. A single L-shaped room consists of mainly banquette seats which follow the bar round. Several tellies for horse racing and footy. No real ale. It wasn't as grim as I was expecting, though I was here on a Thursday afternoon.
