A riverside country pub on the edge of Exmoor, a fantastic location which draws in lots of grockles but also has a thriving regular following. There is a large gravel car park on the other side of the road to supplement the few parking spaces at the front of the pub itself, and there is a pleasant, well-tended garden informally divided into several different areas. Inside, it has a lot of rural charm and a convivial atmosphere, very different to what the tourist-trap outside leads you to expect. The locals were certainly friendly, the staff efficient and helpful, the décor comfortable and traditional. On handpump were Wilkins Farmhouse Cider, Exmoor Ale, Otter Bright and Otter Ale. The ales were in very good condition, and had we not been driving we should have had a few more. Stan’s Cider and a couple from Thatcher’s, plus some lagers completed the line-up. An enjoyable visit, definitely worth coming back for another go when passing. It’s on the 2025 Somerset CAMRA Ale Trail.

Stopped briefly this time last year after collecting new puppy, & a flying visit to nearby Cleeve Abbey, but have no detailed pub notes. Maybe 3 real ales & whatever I had was good, friendly service, comfortably rustic interior. Separate beer garden, part decked & covered, on other side of road, also skittle alley housed in its own building. Mostly, I just found my photo to load & am commenting as best I can... They were happy for us to bring the adult dog in, I notice their website offers decent value accommodation.
