A roadside inn which, judging from BobOs’s review below, is a better B&B than it is a pub. There is a large car park but the outside areas are not attractive and suffer from traffic noise. The welcome wasn’t particularly warm, unlike the beer. Inside there are two main bar areas, a saloon with dining tables and a public bar mainly used by locals. The tables weren’t particularly clean, indeed I had to use a knife to separate my table mat from the table. The public bar had a pool table and gaming machines, and it was popular with loud children. It feels a bit grubby, certainly a bit rough around the edges. The gents’ lavatory had mould growing around the sink and an accumulation of gunk in the hand dryer, and I was informed the ladies’ was in a similar state. Food was cheap, but the poor quality made it poor value for money. Only one ale on, Tribute, which was in fair condition. Also available were Porettti, Thatcher’s Gold, Estrella, Carlsberg and Fosters. It’s worth bypassing and finding something off the main road rather than stopping here.

Nice comfortable country pub/hotel at the main crossroads in the village of Wheddon Cross, in the heart of Exmoor National Park. We stayed for a very nice long weekend and can recommend the warm welcome, excellent menu and well kept ales. Our room was excellent and we had a good view of Dunkery Beacon. Overall not cheap but good value - above average.
