Still much as described below, this is a large and fairly smart pub largely given over to dining but with a more ordinary bar at the rear. Highly timbered walls and ceilings but painted in a light coffee shade so not oppressively so. On handpump were TT Landlord, Ossett Blonde and Pennine IPA, the latter being in very good order. The guy behind the bar was laconic almost to the point of rudeness, but I suppose you'd get used to him.

A large, much extended, stone built pub in what appears to be a planned estate village associated with the local Hall, a former home of King George V's daughter. The pub looks like several buildings have been joined together and the interior has a mix of styles reflecting this. At the front is a split level lounge in half timbering, next to this is an L Shaped restaurant area, with a further eating area tacked on the back. At the back is a comfortable traditional public bar complete with bench seating and a dart board. At the back is a beer patio next to a car park with generous sized spaces. There is a bar counter with T-bar and single handpump in the lounge and three pumps and a T-bar of the usual stuff in the public. A pedestrian but well kept choice of Boddingtons (!), Black Sheep Bitter and Jennings Cumberland was available when we had lunch there. It is a very friendly place doubling as village pub and reasonable restaurant. Décor is traditional posh pub with a nice carpet, dark brown furniture and tasteful prints.
