Now under new ownership since early 2012, the landlord's background in the restaurant trade is evident. There's a kitchen hatch to the left of the fireplace, which has a few low chairs and a small table. The bar is tiny, with just room for a few fonts and two hand pumps. The other rooms are set up for dining, with unidentifiable lounge bar music to match, though I was not made to feel unwelcome when I called in for a half with my walking boots and rucksack on a wet autumn lunchtime.
The two real ales available were Black Sheep Bitter and Theakstons Best Bitter, and I paid an eye-watering £1.70 for my half. There were quite a few eaters dotted about the various rooms, so there's obviously a demand for the rather expensive food to go with the (for this part of the world) very expensive beer. Not one to go out of your way to find if it's just a beer you're after, but seems to be something of a destination pub for those who like this sort of thing.

Set in the picturesque village of Downham, this pub originally was a farmhouse brewing beer for the local workers, the fireplace dates back to 1765. Well worth a visit as the place has so much character. Three ales on handpump, I enjoyed the Moorhouse`s Blond Witch, will call again.

This pub is situated in the quaint little village of Downham. This pub was featured in the TV series Born and Bred, and was called the Signalmans arms. Although i did not dine myself, quite a few others were eating and must admit the food did look appetising. The seating in one room are wooden booths arranged not dissimilar to a railway carriage, with low background music being the order of the day. There was also not a great deal of parking space. If you are after disco music or a live rock band, then this is not for you.
