This white-painted village local still has a Thwaites sign, but the beers available were not from Lancashire but from Cornwall: Sharps Doom Bar and Coaster. The Doom Bar was as good as I have had it, being well kept by the friendly landlord, whose time was divided between serving drinks, carrying meals from the kitchen and acting as quiz-master, but even his expertise could not make a decent drink out of this disappointingly ordinary beer.
There was a convivial atmosphere, with the patient quiz players in one room - apparently attempting to set a world record for the gap between question four and question five - contrasting with an expletive-laden discussion of Brexit at the bar, in which I was generously included. In between, I was happy to watch a game of rugby league on the TV screen above the bar, a rare treat these days. Nice pub, shame about the beer.
