Ye Old Elm Tree has a front bar area with a front facing L-shaped serving counter that supports premium keg alongside Carling and six hand pumps that were drawing Pilot, Landlord, Wylam Brewery’s Affogato, Hadrian Border Brewery’s Farne Island, Durham’s El Citra and Maxim Brewery’s Lambton’s. To the right of the counter flagstone steps rise to a seating area where some students have gathered, these young’uns do like wedging themselves into the corner of places. There’s more seating to the left and past an old, exposed brick wall in the left rear where I enjoyed a pint of the excellent Lambton’s while sat on a very comfortable converted barrel seat. Out the back is a large covered decked area with wooden seating, but due to the evening being very dreary everyone remained in the pub. The service was polite and I enjoyed my stay, so I’ll be visiting here again, probably as a double header with the GrAle over the road.

A little bit locally but nice building inside. Musics a bit loud but beer is good. Small but nice bar

A very pleasant pub off the city centre, popular with the locals. Six ales on the bar, I had a decent bitter. exposed stone walls, beams and some very interesting decor. an elderly local couple were chatting away with a young American couple next to me, it’s definitely a proper pub. Didn’t notice any food and the jukebox was out of action.
