Dating from the mid-17th century and mentioned by Daniel Defoe, this was originally the Green Man, the current roadhouse incarnation situated at a bleak gyratory system known as Green Man roundabout and dating from 1929, given the full Céad Míle Fáilte blarney in 1995.
This is a big, bare boarded place with grey paint, some bare brick, silent unwatched golf on a TV, games machine, trendy metal light fittings, sauce bottles on tables and young, trendy customers, few in number, making the place seem a bit empty.
There’s no cask here, the most inviting option being a half of Punk IPA at a reasonable £2.75 a half, served by a fungible barman, informing me that the place was going to shut in 20 minutes; my arrival time was some way short of 9.00pm on a Thursday, which is a bit lame; the other three pubs visited (this was the first of four) didn’t have a problem.
As the previous reviewer mentions, this place is better than expected but that’s better than expected by O’Neil’s standards; the North Star is a short walk.

Large pub and music venue. Standard draught selection and food served. Better than I was expecting.

Nice pub, decent service and beer, plenty of room to sit and chat, music not too loud. For information there is a new Indian restaraunt opposite it for those that enjoy a drink and a curry.
