Yet another North West London, old-school Wetherspoons pub, located in an unlikely part of town just five minutes or so from the tube station. It's another shop converted premises, carpeted throughout and with good seating options to the front and then down the right-hand side, whilst a compact servery appears midway down the left-hand wall. Padded benches and loads of standard chairs fill the front part of the room, broken only by a short section of partitioning with modern etched glass panes. Half height panels, plenty of mirrors and lots of local black and white photos confirm that this is a bit of an old-school example of the chain, whilst the bar has a typical dark wood and polished stone counter with an impressively detailed bar back. A skylight over the pub's mid-section solves the potential issue of a dark central space, where high stools and tables start to predominate. A small space further back offers more comfier seating options, but is very limited in size. Several TV screens were showing live Euro 2024 football,which a good number of customers appeared to be watching.
Alongside the three regular 'Spoons beers were four guest ales, none of which were particularly interesting, so I ended up with a pint of Greene King Yardbird, which was pretty average. The staff were all quite friendly, but the pub attracted a crazy weekend crowd, many of whom would be better suited to a town centre drinking barn than this modest suburban 'Spoons.
I found this to be a slightly chaotic pub, although that may be more a result of the timing of my visit, a few hours after England won a penalty shoot-out in the Euros, rather than a typical evening's experience. The beer range was dull on this visit, but I assume they cycle through the same guest list as other 'Spoons, so I may have been unlucky with that too. Other than that, they seemed to be getting the basics right and I'd be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt overall.
