A serious drinking establishment with 3 rooms in a modern style, the central one holding a tile-fronted counter with 4 handpumps and a row of wall taps behind. There is also an upstairs area which we didn't venture into. It offers a pretty good range of beers and styles, mainly from Yorkshire and the North East but with a few others, and they seemed in top form. My only slight grumble might have been to have something darker on cask but otherwise quite content. I went for the Three Brothers A Slice of Sunshine which was in great form and I am happy to say the bar staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful on this occasion. Definitely worth doing.

Modern trendy bar and eatery, opened in 2021 as the successor to the Tithe Bar. Relatively well done; there’s a bar off left as you enter with the seating area divided into two by a rectangular knock- through. There’s also an eatery upstairs. Décor choices of vivid turquoise metro tiled servery and banquettes which I quite liked. A perhaps unusual GBG pick, there were four cask and 12 fairly eclectic keg from the rear wall though the cask choice was fairly samey style-wise. Tried a new brewery, Second Sun's Halcyon, which was in good nick (NBSS 3.5) so worth the GBG place. Tweenage bar staff needed a lesson in customer interaction though, they looked like they’d wet themselves each time an adult spoke to them. 6.5

This would be my pub of choice if only time for one in Northallerton. It's an interesting, slightly quirky building with the bar counter displaying six hand pumps in an enticing way. I was here a couple of days after the news of the demise of Great Heck brewery, and hoped to find one of their beers still on, as in the past. No such luck, though there was one in the cellar waiting to come on. The young lass who served me said what a shame it was, as their beers were always popular here and were frequently on the bar. I consoled myself with a very good Tapped Broon Toon, brewed in Sheffield.
