Re-visited on a Friday afternoon back in June. 7 of 8 hand pulls on at the time. I inadvertently ordered a cider on cask, as I didn't notice the small print on the pump clip describing it as such. Good job I like cider otherwise that would have been a shock! We'll call it a happy accident on this occasion, setting me back £2.65 for a half.

The pub was much busier on this visit than the last time I was here, with just one table free that looked like it was set out for dining so I didn't really want to take that up with just a drink. The place felt smaller than I remembered. Food is served, which presumably was helping with the brisk lunch time trade. There are some stools with drinking ledges to the side wall, so I occupied one of these, which was no issue.

As well as the cask there are various keg options, including Cherry Chouffe.

Harry and Marv lookalikes were in attendance but not causing any bother. The place is family friendly.

Looks like I just missed Brainy Pool. I was there 3pm on the 23rd August.

I quite this level of serendipity. I had a comment on my walking blog about Brid's cross brewery after my last stage of the GM Ringway. 12 miles walked today and I noticed a 4x4 with the branding on the spare wheel cover, then a little later on route, a black van in their livery.

Baum was also recommended to me - and on arrival, a full tap takeover, as its their first anniversary. Then someone talking about them on here. What are the chances!

Anyway, the pub is exactly my type - a well converted shop, full of nick nacks, with some comfy seating in the windows, wooden floors and a nice bar.

I went for a delightful Under the Eildon Tree - a WC IPA. Wish the trains had been running as planned (storm Lillian) and I could have stayed longer.

Called in here after the interesting museum next door. it’s Rochdale’s destination pub; on my visit it had a tap takeover by local Brids Cross brewery “inspired by folklore”. Comfortable and quirky interior and a friendly barman who will talk to you about the beers. enjoyed the Baum Rabbit, an easy drinking pale ale. Food is served and looked good and hearty.
