A town centre pub owned by Stonegate, with all that that implies. The building is a large historic 18th Century house opposite the main shopping area, though the ground floor has been opened out to form a single bar/dining room with a pool table, gaming machines, jukebox, TVs showing football and one or two nice architectural features including a Georgian fireplace. There is no proper garden, but there is a paved courtyard. Food is exactly what you expect from a chain that isn’t quite as good as JDW. The young staff were inexperienced but friendly, the customers were well behaved, including the young children who were eating with their families. Ales on were Doombar, GK IPA and Hambrook Pale Ale, plus there were several boxed ciders and two ciders on draft. The beer quality was rather good, and overall I was pleasantly surprised by this pub. I’d be happy to come back and include in a crawl.
