The Water House is a sports orientated pub with televisions throughout for showing live sports and there are three dartboards on a mezzanine at the rear where a sign says, “I’m sexy and I throw it”, oh dear. Under these boards is a sunken seating area, but the main body of seating is across the front of the pub where open plan standard tables and chairs are found. In the centre of the pub are high tables that are faced from the left by the serving counter that supports standard and premium keg alongside four hand pumps that were drawing Old Peculiar, Directors, Wainwright Gold and Maxim Brewery’s Double Maxim. The goings on in this high street pub are far removed from the days of it being a Wetherspoons, but there’s still a Spoonsy vibe.

Sold to Amber Taverns and now selling a half of Double Maxim for £1.55. Gosh, that's cheap! (Cask beers advertised at £2.50/pint, so there must be a premium on halves, but who's complaining?) It's cheap and cheerful. Just look at the faces of the regulars, as they sup their cheap beer to the pounding beat of cheap pop music. Actually, my beer was ok and it was not totally unpleasant here early afternoon. Beats watching another late bus disappear off the screens without even making it to the bus station, anyway.

Rambling spoons over three levels, counter near the back to the left. Usual layout, the dross is on the furthest bank of five pulls but only Doombar looked to be running there, on the other bank three were in use, one just went off as I got there the other had a clip saying we’re proud to support CAMRA. Not a lot to say, beer was average, it was much better in the Bishops Mill and the staff, at both actually, were much better than average.
