Strongers . left this review about The City
Adjacent to the entrance of the City is a large ‘snug’ table and beyond to the right with views out of the front window is a laminate floored seating area. There’s a step down to the rear half of the pub where a serving counter runs up the right-hand wall and some sunken seating is found in the left rear corner. During a recent midweek afternoon visit televisions throughout were airing cricket on Sky Sports and snooker on TNT Sport, both muted while some background music played. Premium keg products were available alongside Fosters and the three hand pumps were clipped with Abbot Ale (off), Doom Bar and Fuller’s Seafarers. The service from the landlady was polite, but any character this pub once had has been stripped out to leave a modern non-descript pub.

Old Boots left this review about The City
Probably once a nice old pub now modernised in mixed styles, copper topped tables and old settles clashing with modern cow hide covered fixed seating. Bleached pine and cream woodwork against trendy shades of grey woodwork, nautical lighting here, deco-ish there. In short a bloody mess. Two pulls, one with a reversed Bombardier clip the other a house rebadge of some dross from Marstons. I was charged £2.10 for a half of this mighty 3.6% ale and it was a woeful short measure, asking for a top up was a total pantomime ending up with a gnats gonad more volume. Rubbish.
