Still laid out as described below. The car park is still far too small for the number of people trying to use the pub, and there is very little parking available nearby. Part of the land at the front has been blocked off as outside seating with benches and tables. Inside, the open fire was very welcome. The rear room is now primarily a dining area. Food is standard pub grub from a laminated menu, and is fairly priced for the area. On Cask were Branoc and Golden Fiddle from the local Branscombe Brewery, both in excellent condition, while a third pump was dry. There were five keg taps operating, but we could only read Madri, the others remaining a mystery to us. The staff were pleased to see us, especially the landlady who made a point of welcoming us and taking time to chat despite being busy. The village isn’t exactly easy to reach, but if I were here I should be very happy to come to this pub again for food or a few drinks.

The Fountain Head Inn is the westernmost pub in the village of Branscombe. Whilst the other pub in the village, the Mason's Arms had been busy, the Fountain Head only had two other customers when we arrived on a Thursday lunchtime.

Parking here is limited and we couldn't locate the car park initially. It can be found behind the pub on Berry Hill.

This is a really traditional country pub with 3 rooms. The front and rear room both have large fireplaces. With its uneven stone floors, it felt quite cool inside. So, I can see why the fires were necessary. Old black and white pictures of the village can be found on the walls. Outside, there are a few outdoor tables to the front of the pub, some undercover.

A couple of local beers were available on cask - Branscombe Golden Fiddle & Branoc. A third handpull was unclipped. A local cider also from Branscombe was also available called Flat Calm. Weston's Vintage was also on draught and there was a Greene King beer called Prior Life. Jars of chutney were available for sale behind the bar, as well as jigsaws featuring the pub. I don't recall ever seeing jigsaws for sale in a pub before.

A couple of people did arrive after us seeking food. The landlady was unsure if the kitchen had closed or not, but I think they were accommodated. The Mason's Arms up the road certainly seems the more foodie pub in the village. However, there is no mistaking the charm of this country pub. The availability of a cider was a bonus, but this was my favourite pub of a day's drinking in Devon.
