The front entrance of Block & Gasket leads to a large open plan bar that was reasonably busy during a recent midweek evening visit. To the left of the entrance are a few high tables and then the bar runs along the left wall. To the right of the entrance is a sofa seating area that leads to some standard tables and chairs that run up the windowed right side of the pub. At the rear is a small raised seating area with a huge screen for showing live sports. This is named the Fanzone and can be booked in advance. For those that can’t be bothered to plan ahead there are televisions located throughout. Outside along the long windowed side is a decked seating area adjacent to the passing road.
The bar supports a premium keg range alongside three hand pumps. One of these was unused which left Sharp’s Doom Bar and Titanic Plum Porter as the cask ale options. Pub food is available all day. The service was polite and the clientele was mainly twenty-something, but there were a few older customers so this isn’t a trendy kids bar. As these types of bars go I actually though this place was OK and I would pop back in if passing, especially as I’m a massive fan of Plum Porter.

Called in again yesterday, the hand pulls have now been reduced to three. Two of these were clipped for Doom Bar (one with the old clip, one with the new style clip) and the other was "Cut The Mid Drop The Bass" by Nightjar. Naturally this is the one I went for, at £1.85 for a half. Unfortunately this was rather sour, and I am not sure it was meant to be.
There are four craft keg type taps but only offering fairly bog standard Brewdog stuff so nothing to get excited about there, plus another four taps for cider.
There was a sign boasting that the serve Tiny Rebel beers, but there was no evidence of that yesterday. So perhaps a slight glimmer of hope there.
I've never had that Nightjar beer before so not sure what it is meant to taste like so will have to keep an open mind, but it didn't seem quite right to me. However dedicating two of your three hand pulls to Doom Bar is pretty unforgivable in my book.

Visited yesterday while in Sale. I have been once before so decided it was time to refresh my memory. At the time of my visit four hand pulls, one of which was off, the remaining three being Autumn Red by Caledonian, Bonkers Conkers by Greene King and Doom Bar. So not a very exciting line up. I went for the Autumn Red, £1.60 for a half. It was not terrible, but not great, and consistent with my memory of having had this elsewhere. Probably the best of a bad bunch though.
There are also eight taps on the back wall, with two beers and four ciders available on there. The two beers were Freedom Four (I think this is a lager, but no indication on the chalk board) and Brewdog Clockwork Tangerine. These were £4.55 and £4.65 a pint respectively.
I was in some time between 11 and 11:30am and there were a few other people in, some looking like your typical day drinkers, others more respectable. Two looked like the burglars from Home Alone.
The Block & Gasket does food - tapas, pizzas, sharers and the usual pubby stuff.
I'm giving it a generous 7/10 as I am sure the real ale selection was a bit more adventurous on my previous visit so going to give it the benefit of the doubt. At least there are some keg options as backup.
Toilets are downstairs but there is a disabled toilet on the ground floor. There is a small strip of decked outdoor area to the side. This place has more TVs than Currys, so can only assume it gets quite busy when there are major sporting events on. At the time of my visit it was showing some tennis.
