The Malt House is a long Greene King pub on the canal with raised seating in the front right corner and a serving counter along the right-hand wall that faces a row of high tables up the centre of the pub and dark red banquettes with tables and red and green stools up the left-hand canal side windows. More raised seating is found towards the rear and at the very rear is a small dining area with a large fireplace. There is balcony seating upstairs, but this area was closed off on a recent Monday evening when the televisions throughout were airing 5-a-side football on Sky Sports with sound. The draught from the bar stretched to Premium keg and the four hand pumps were drawing GK IPA and 2x Malt House plus St Austell’s Tribute. The drink options aren’t very interesting, but I liked the pub layout and atmosphere, although I’m not so sure this would be the case at a busier time.

Large Greene King pub alongside the canal, which was indeed a former maltings. It's somehow a pub that I have missed until now. As Greene King pubs go, I thought this one was fairly good. There was a good mixture of drinkers and diners and a fair number of families. A mezzanine level was closed off meaning there were few available tables on the ground floor.
I seem to recall 5 handpulls but most cask ales were labelled "coming soon" or similar. This left the house Greene King beer - Malt House Canalside Ale alongside a guest beer - Attic Centro. A drinking colleague had just had the Centro in the nearby Brasshouse and was quite happy with it. We all had it here and apparently it was in better condition here and went down even nicer with a CAMRA discount. I'm not sure how much it was but I'm sure it was cheaper than the £7 a pint in the Brasshouse.
Keg Greene King beers were Level Head, Hazy Day, Prior Life & Ice Breaker. With the excellent Prince of Wales nearby, I suspect I'll be back here at some point.

This is a Greene King foody gaff, with all that brings. Only their own ales available, no guests, but there was a Greene King seasonal ale, named False Nine.
Plenty of outdoor seating with views of the canal, and only on leaving did I notice an upper floor with balcony area that would have had even better views.
Not one I'd be fussed about going back to but nice to have tried it because of its location.
