Large, two-level student canalside pub that majors on music. The mechanical crane outside is of interest and I imagine the seating there would be a good bet for a sunny day. The upstairs main bar has some rafters but is fairly dull, faintly wild west in style but not enough to be interesting. Four pumps with three ales on; Sharps Atlantic, Robinsons Trooper and a pretty dire Skinners Sunshine (NBSS 1) which I dumped. Apparently on an extended life support from the area’s redevelopment, so this inaugural visit may well be my last.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Flapper
Split-level music pub with - as you would expect - limited furniture and basic decor. Pinball machine and pool table. Canal-side patio beer garden. Four handpumps, offering Church End Goats Milk (£3.20) and Sharp's Offshore IPA in addition to the regular Robinson's Trooper and Old Rosie cider.

Having spent the best part of 25 years working in Birmingham, for some reason I had never been to this pub before, which is only 10 minutes walk from New Street Station. Probably because it looks a bit ordinary from the outside and its tucked away down a small cul-de-sac at the beginning of a residential area.
Its a large music orientated pub, with bare boards making it feel a bit 'Western'y, there are views and a terrace overlooking the canal. There is a large bar following the room and signs of live bands/dj use in the evenings, in the lower bar? Friendly enough, I've got a feeling that the music would be louder than average at night.
4 real ales, which were kept well enough.
A great find for me, I would happily go back & try this one again in the evening to see what its like. Its very close to the ICC and the real aled Prince of Wales and offers a grood contrast
