An atmospheric old village inn dating back to the 16th Century. There is a carpark with an unmade surface at the back and a sheltered paved courtyard, off which are the B&B rooms. Inside, there is a single long bar made from conjoining rooms, mostly carpeted but feeling very homely. There are timbers and an inglenook, the latter containing a woodburner. There is a small, unobtrusive TV screen by the fireplace. There is a skittle alley at the back which also has a dartboard and from which the toilets are reached. Food is varied, ranging from good quality pub grub to a few more interesting dishes. The landlord was very friendly and a couple of the locals chatted to us, so it was a really enjoyable and sociable visit. Ales on were Branscombe Branco, Otter Amber and Butcombe Original, all in very good condition. Well worth a revisit, and I might even use the B&B in future.

New owners take over 7th January 2008, I wish them good luck as it will take some dragging back to being a real Pub.
Outgoing owners did absolutely nothing to entice custom being downright rude and offensive to all, good riddance and lets hope the Smell does not linger too long.
Rating is left for the new owners as it can only improve.
