An attractive pub with whitewashed stone walls and a thatched roof in this picturesque village, there are great views across the channel from the beer garden and internally the pub does not disappoint either.

Décor wise it’s quite traditional with old flagstones on the floor throughout, old beams on the ceiling and exposed stonework on much of the walls. To the right was a slightly cosier room with oak wood panelling on the walls. A number of old pewter tankards were hung from the beams as well as some sort of trumpet type instrument, and there were a few life buoys on the walls and some old black and white pictures as well as a brass ship’s clock and brass light fittings. A large stone fireplace was at one end with a church style pew next to it.

Beers on tap were On The Level’s Somerset Pale, Otter Oak IPA, Otter Amber and Exmoor Stag, whilst a fifth pump was in the process of being changed. Ciders were also well represented with Porlock Vale Medium, Cornish Rattler, Cornish Orchard’s Cherry & Blackberry, Exmoor Cider and Thatcher’s Gold. All in all I thought this was a lovely pub in a great location. Like many in popular tourist destinations it could so easily have not really bothered and just relied on the passing trade to fill the coffers, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case here.

Attractive looking thatched roofed pub in the small harbour of Porlock Weir. You'd struggle for a more scenic coastal spot. Decent choice of beers including one from Otter, Exmoor Stag, Exmoor Ale and Tribute. I went for the Stag which was fine. I didn't go inside during these "Covid" days so enjoyed the views out front. Well worth a visit.

This review is for the Ship Inn, Porlock Weir.

Sister pub to the other Ship Inn.

Great beer selection. Open at 10am and I hang my head in shame and state that I had a cup of tea.
