Busy branch of Wetherspoon's in the middle of Wood Green. It now finds itself in the latest Good Beer Guide.
There were bouncers on the door for our Saturday evening visit, which is never a very good sign. However, inside there were just quite a few people with all tables taken. So, perhaps the bouncers are solely there to manage any potential overcrowding. Customers inside were typical Wetherspoon's customers - elderly people enjoying cheap beer and youngsters having some cheap alcopops/cocktails before heading somewhere a bit more hip/lively.
The usual 'spoon's beers were all available - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guest beers were Marston's Old Empire, Salopian Hop Twister, Sambrook's Candlemaker & Milestone West Coast IPA. Bag in the box ciders in fridges were Weston's Old Rosie & Gwynt y Ddraig.
Service was like pulling teeth. We ended up with a young girl who was struggling to work the till and couldn't locate the beers we had ordered. It wasn't even a difficult round. I had to walk her along the bar to locate the Candlemaker (a black IPA) pump. When she dispensed it she said "ooh, it looks just like Guinness". She was probably quite friendly, but certainly a little vacant. In fairness, they did have plenty of staff serving, but we did end up with the wrong one.
The interior has a few murals to hold your interest for a little while. But it's generally one of their typical drinking barns.

Gloomy workaday Spoons (opened in 2000, I think), bedecked in an unsatisfactory colour scheme of mushroom and burgundy. The metal servery is unusual and is the only thing of interest. Tables are really squashed together and the atmosphere was horrible and claustrophobic on a grey wet Saturday afternoon. Four guest cask, my Maxim didn't clear (NBSS 1.5) but the Kirkby Lonsdale Radical was much better (3). Didn’t get on with this place at all.

This is a large ,modern 'spoons housed on the ground floor of a huge building and close to the tube station. There is a very high ceiling,a raised section to the right and a rank of high tables down the middle of the space with regular furniture elsewhere.Noise reverberates around the cavernous interior,it lacks charm and has the atmosphere of a drinking barn.
There are 10 handpumps drawing on my trip regulars GK IPA,Abbott,Ruddles Best and Doom Bar with guests Banks and Taylor SOS,Redemption Urban Dusk,Portobello VPA,Lymestone Ein Stein and a very decent Nottingham Brewery Rose's Oatmeal Stout.
Despite the downsides,at least you can get a decent pint here which is rare in this part of Wood Green.
