The Masonic is situated on the busy North Street.
Once inside there is an L shaped room which is carpeted, the seating is bench type and small stools, there were three TVs showing football, there is a darts board to the rear, there is also a skittle alley up a few steps to the rear left.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Butcombe Bitter which was a very nice drink, the other beers were Courage Best and one from Crack brewery.
The pub was quite busy on our Saturday afternoon visit.
This seemed like a proper pub.

Blackthorn _ left this review about The Masonic
A prominent pub in the middle of North Street, it is known locally for the ever changing colourful murals on it’s large side wall, a few of which are shown on the photographs here. It’s surprisingly spacious inside and looks as though it may have had something of a refurbishment at some point, perhaps in an effort to keep up with some of the other nearby pubs that have upped their game considerably in recent years. There is an awning at the front of the pub and limited outside seating.
The main bar area is an L-shape room with a small brick fire-place to one side although unfortunately there was just a portable gas heater in there rather than anything cosier. The lower parts of the walls were clad in wood panelling painted in a shade of gastro-pub brown whilst there was cream plasterwork elsewhere and a couple of thick black beams on the ceiling. Wooden pews with green velvet seating provided much of the seating and a couple of plasma screens were showing different sports channels. A darts board was in one corner and there is also a skittle alley/function room at the rear. A few old adverts for Courage Best were dotted around the walls.
The solitary beer on tap was Courage Best, whilst the ciders were Blackthorn and Thatcher’s Gold. All in all this seemed a solid local’s boozer with a friendly barmaid and there was a good crowd in on a recent Monday evening visit.
