The Old Dun Cow has the feel of a late bar, but it was starting to fill up with people of mixed ages, although the majority were younger, early evening during a recent midweek visit. The interior is L-shaped with a dance floor and DJ booth to the left and a pool table in the left rear adjacent to the toilets. An L-shaped serving counter to the right of the entrance faces a couple of booths to the front and standard tables to the right where there’s also an old Waltzer car. Bradley Walsh was on the televisions and there was music playing in the background. The service was polite but only standard keg was available on draught, so I saw nothing in here to lure me back.

Once the Old Dunn Cow, this alleyway pub retains a fine exterior but inside is a different story. Apart from the bar itself, the rooms have been stripped down and opened out with a very bare feel, and equipped with a mixture of benches, tables and sofas, presumably aimed at younger customers. A couple of craft keg beers are on offer, together with one handpump in use which offered the rare Read Kjarr (as in Redcar) from North Yorkshire Brewery. Sadly this proved to be totally undrinkable, hence the low rating.
