Strongers . left this review about The Sussex Hotel
At some point since May last year the York Hotel has been renamed the Sussex Hotel. The exterior is well maintained and there are some picnic tables out the front separated from the road by a knee high fence. The interior is large and L shaped and there is a pool table and a dartboard at the rear. There is also a plasma screen, but this was turned off during an England Euro 2012 qualifier so there obviously isn’t any Sky Sports. There was some random inoffensive background music playing, but I didn’t see a jukebox so it may have been off a cd. This is still a hotel and there are ten en suite bedrooms and I go the feeling that the majority of the handful of people present were paying guests. The bar supports three hand pumps, but two of these were unused leaving Harveys Best as the only ale option. There is also a standard draught range, but although the service was very friendly the Guinness wasn’t the best. There are a couple of happy hours from 17:00 until 19:00 Mondays to Saturdays when all draught is £2.50 a pint. There was some live music advertised along with a horse racing night, but I didn’t see anything events advertised.
This is a friendly enough pub but it was a little sterile, especially for a Friday night, for my liking so I do not plan to return anytime soon.
