The Woods is on the opposite side of the road to the other bars in the middle of Chapel Alerton.
There is a decent outside seating area.
Once inside there is a square shaped room with the bar on the left side,the floor is bare boarded,there is a raised area to the front right which is up one step,the seating is bench type with loads of cushions on and normal tables and chairs,plus some uncomfortable looking tall stools,for some strange reason there was a log burner on the go to the right.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Wylam Cascade which went down well,the other beers noted were Bad Co Summer Breeze,Great Heck Amish Mash,Great Heck Treasure IPA and one from Theakston,my Wylam Cascade was £2.10 for a half which i thought was a bit on the expensive side.
Food is served and there was background music playing.
The pub was empty on my Saturday dinner visit when all other pubs and bars were fairly busy,maybe something to do with its pricing policy.
I found this to be a pleasant enough bar to have a drink in.

Quite a makeover for what was the Hummingbird, a rearrangement of the ground floor space sees a raised area to the right and an informal seating area at the back. The counter is to the left with four pulls of local brews, Ilkley and Ossett predominate, keg brews on 6 steel founts, mainly international stuff but Brooklyn and Krusovice, which I haven't tried, amongst them. The fridges have a few interesting bottles mainly the common Belgian beers, but including Orval, and familiar US friends plus some beers from Camden. There's also wine and a collection of fairly weird spirits for classic and dodgy cocktails. On three floors with a restaurant on the first floor and a live music and events and HD cinema and roof terrace on the second. Good enthusiastic staff and decent quality too. A lot of the food is cooked wood fired hence the name perhaps. The popular outside drinking space has been retained. Might be too family friendly for some in the afternoon but it's still different and still worth a visit.

Formerly the “Angel's Share”, it's just one smallish square room with the counter down one side, a pergola covered outside seating area and another room upstairs. It does have a couple of handpumps and a few keg founts as well as the wine, spirits and coffee you would expect. Seating inside is on leather benches with a couple of lower sofas in the middle. I can't fault the staff for their enthusiasm or the quality of their service. On the handpumps were Daleside Blonde and Everards Whakatu (made with New Zealand hops), sadly the Everards was obviously at the end of the barrel so a bit thin and poor. Mainly younger customers, but not teens or even younger 20somethings, and a bit of a “haircut” bar in some ways, but not too bad a place.
