Over ten years later, Steve's 2012 review mostly holds true. The amount of TVs has increased (to 3) and the amount of hand pumps has reduced (to 2). Harvey's Sussex Best available from just one of the two pumps (the second unclipped) and £4.80 for the privilege. Raised stool seating and tables at the front of the room with 'standard' tables and chairs in the rear half of the room. A smattering in; mainly older locals and I was only one of two people on the ale. Garish Arts & Craft wallpaper above a medium-height dado with a smattering of breweriana, horse and horseracing and Brighton-related framed photos/pictures on the walls. A solid local boozer if anything.

The Golden Cannon is a basic single room pub with a bar on the left hand wall in relation to the entrance. There are a few tables and chairs in the bar area and there is more seating at the rear of the pub where a plasma screen was showing a muted film. The lighting was very dim and there was some very chilled background music playing. The young lady behind the bar was nice enough, but the three other customers at the bar were spouting ridiculous bravado and really were old enough to know better. The bar supports three hand pumps, but two of these were unused leaving Harvey’s Best as the ale option. There is also a standard draught selection, but I didn’t spot any signs for food.
This was one of the quieter pubs I found on a crawl of the area last Tuesday evening and after popping in I know why. I will walk past this pub when next in the area.
