A traditional backstreet pub, festooned in old sporting prints, with a nice heavy wooden bar counter and considerable character. Another room lies off to the side, while what looks like a covered courtyard room stands behind. A rather large screen to one side of the bar takes over a bit when sport is on, but at least someone was watching it. There are a couple of tables outside at the front and a larger courtyard garden to the side. A Fullers pub, so just their beers on handpump, being London Pride, ESB, Seafarers and Hophead.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the town centre,this is a charming Fuller's boozer.The two etched glass entrance doors would have originally opened into a public bar and saloon,these days its one carpeted room with an elegantly curved island bar,but it retains a lot of features and some good wood panelling.Furniture is traditional and there is a charming mini banquette in one bay window.Towards the rear is a laid for service dining room,although the menu is pub grub at reasonable prices,and a £7 lunchtime specials deal.No food service between 2.30pm and 6pm ,although there are a variety of bar snacks.
There is a small patio at the front ,the road outside is quiet.
Two banks of handpumps offering London Pride (doubled),ESB,Hophead,Seafarers and a seasonal Fullers Hop Tropic (NBSS 3.5).The muzak was not too loud and the flatscreen above the fireplace will show football from all subcription sources but will be turned off otherwise,a good policy.Around the walls is a huge amount of rugby ephemira with a great display of signed rugby shirts in the restaurant.
Well worth a visit and not overrun by tourists ,so a genuine atmosphere and friendly service.I will be back.

A pretty solid Fuller's trad boozer, a U shaped room wrapped around a central servery,carpeted with various seating options throughout. Six handpumps dispensed a dedicated Fuller's Lineup of Pride (doubled up), ESB, Seafarers, Bengal Lancer and Oliver's Island.The menu was pretty substantial and reasonably priced, sub £10.00,the service was noticeably very good and courteous. I am not the greatest fan of Fullers beers but wouldn't be adverse to a return visit.
