Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Palace
Large pub close to Leeds parish church (but a fair walk from the modern city centre). Elongated 'L'-shaped bar, with one end on a slightly lower level. Also has some benches out front. Was a Nicholson's pub when I last visited some 11 years ago, but it's been thoroughly refurbished in a slightly upmarket, semi-traditional style at some stage since then. 11 is also the total number of handpumps on the counter, but only five of these were in use when we visited (offering Doom Bar, Leeds Pale, Burrow's Blonde from Black Sheep, Wainwright Gold and Old Rosie cider) along with five more similar beers 'coming soon'.

I can remember this as a Tetley's Heritage pub from my time living in Leeds, or when visiting my daughters in Leeds after I moved to Sheffield, and it still retains some features from those days, though it's been stripped back a bit. There are two banks of hand pumps on the bar, with one set used to display the pump clips of those beers which are "coming soon", and three beers and a cider on the other set.
My earlier visit in February this year saw me trying the Salopian Shropshire Gold, a beer I've not voluntarily drunk since finding it served pretty average condition on visits to that county. This was a test of the young licensee's cellarmanship, and he passed with flying colours (NBSS 4.5, would you believe). We had a little chat with him, and his enthusiasm and commitment shone. On this week's trip to the Palace I went for both Black Sheep Best and Leeds Pale, and both were good enough for NBSS 4. (Leeds Pale is another of those tricky beers that most pubs just don't seem to be able to get much better than just about ok, but this was the best of the four times I drank this beer in Leeds this week.) At the time of my visit (midweek mid-afternoon) there were about a dozen other customers, not one of whom were drinking cask beer; I guess there must be times when it's not like that, judging by the beer quality.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Palace
We found this to be a very comfortable pub with great service from the friendly staff. I had a very well kept pint of London Pride, plus the prices were cheaper than their other Nicholson's pub the Scarborough Hotel. There were ten ales and one cider to choose from. The features I liked here was the glazed Victorian tile work in cream and turquoise, the cornice work with the detailed dental moulding, the cast iron streetlamp clock, match strike plates and coat hangers along the front of the bar counter. The wall mounted flat screen TV in the main lounge had an ornate picture frame surrounding it, which I thought was quirky. Mrs A enjoyed the Wharfedale Fair Dinkum.
