This is a large street corner local, painted a repellent black but very pleasant inside, with what appears to be original wood panelling in places and a real fire. There are two hand pumps on the bar, with Dark Star Hophead and Laine Dubloon available. I went for the Dark Star, having previously found the Laine beer not to my taste. It was ok but nothing special. There were a few customers at the time of my mid-afternoon visit and for those who live nearby this would be a pleasant spot for a regular drink, but for a visitor to Brighton this one is not worth the effort of a special visit.

Corner pub serving 1 real ale and food. A pool table and dartboard are located in a raised area at the rear of the pub.

Strongers . left this review about Duke of Beaufort
The Duke of Beaufort is made up by a U shaped bar area with a room at the rear that houses a quiz machine, dartboard and pool table. There is a projector screen which was off during my late midweek evening visit, but I would imagine that Sky Sports is shown when some worthwhile sport is being played. There was some background music playing, but this was escapable as it was only audible at the rear of the building. Alongside Amstel and some standard draught products there are three hand pumps that were drawing W J King’s Brighton Best. From what I gathered from the advertisements sandwiches are available during the week and there is a roast between midday and 16:00 on Sundays. These roasts seem very reasonably priced at £6 for adults and £4 for children.
There were only four locals present during my visit so there was no atmosphere, but the service was polite and I received a decent pint. I will pop back in for another visit when next in the area, if only to the Duke at a busier time.
