This recently newish (in terms of the age of The City of London) build pub was opened in late 1997 and is housed on the bottom floor of an office block where my good lady used to work back in the late 80’s and I remember the area around Monument Tube being a bit of a desert for real ale in those days and a trip to visit her after work usually meant a journey across London Bridge to ‘the Dark Side’. No problems nowadays with this one and the very modern Hydrant on the other side of the street a very short walk from monument Tube station.
As others have said a corporate Greene King outlet set up to feed and Water the nearby office workers and it that respect it ticks all the required boxes. Four hand pumps with three ales on for my visit and fortunately St Austell Tribute was on alongside the GK IPA and London Glory with the fourth pub unbadged.
OK if you are in the area and need a beer and a spot of lunch but certainly not one to go out of your way for.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Monument
Large modern bar with bland corporate furniture and décor, rather mis-marketed by Greene King as a 'traditional pub'. Having said that, it is used to be one of the better places for cask ale in the immediate area, although just IPA and Old Speckled Hen (£6.20) were available on this first revisit for ten years.

Large Greene King pub. 3 beers on when I called. I went for one from the recent Platinum Jubilee which was fine. Handy pub for Bank and Monument tube stations.
